When I read such list, my attention is usually directed to the… location ^^. Some of the venues for 2014 are quite exotic, i mean… Doha? Nepal?? *Himalayaaa!!* 0.o I’ve been to Doha several times, only inside the airport though :p

To be honest, the biggest source of my motivation in entering the PhD journey is this, the opportunities to travel the world >:D, uhm, besides the flexible working hour *if there is no immediate approaching deadline I’m free to go on vacation whenever I want… lalala…*. Furthermore, the chance of doing that without spending our own money is very big. As a student we get a travel budget to be spent on summer schools or conferences (even though it’s not so much in my case -.-), but if our paper get accepted (especially in the top conferences) there will always be budget from somewhere else, and also… sometimes the conference provides travel grants for authors of accepted papers (with selection).

I missed the deadline for Iceland, since I’ve been working on the paper for Sweden. However, I think I will go to Iceland anyway, for another machine learning summer school. I knooow, “summer school… in Iceland??”, right? 😀 but still I would like to go there.

By the way, there is an interesting conference venue… DASFAA 2014 in Sanur beach, Bali! 😀 The deadline for abstract is Oct 20 (8 days from today) and for full paper is Oct 27, and the conference will be held on Apr 21-24, 2014. But I don’t think I can make it, since I will leave for vacation… soon! ^^
